How I made a blog with HUGO and Digital Garden Theme

Introduction: Welcome to my latest tech adventure where I’ve embraced the art of digital gardening using Hugo and the mesmerizing Digital Garden Theme. Digital Gardens are a unique and personal way to grow your ideas, knowledge, and thoughts in a non-linear fashion, akin to nurturing plants. My aim was to create a space that encouraged learning and development both for myself and for readers like you. In this tutorial, I will share the process I went through to build my own blog with this setup, from initial setup to customization.

Build up

We got up in the morning way too late as the previous day we had a party at our house so in the morning we picked up things to take to the venue it was quite far and made it to the event and registered ourselves and then we went to the auditorium where the event was going to take place and found out the event was going to start at 10:30 am so we had some time to relax but still me and Aviral were experimenting with a few things to put in our project.

The Event

There were a few speakers who explained their tracks to make us choose what track we wanted to work on but we already knew what we wanted to work on so we were just waiting for the event to start and then the event started. This was my second hackathon and I was quite excited to work on this project. We had a rigid plan and we were going to stick to it and we were going to make a project that was going to be a game-changer in the field of sustainability. So I and Aviral started on the first page, we put a nice little parallax on the front page.

Mood Board

Mood Board

While aviral was making the figma design I was simultaneously making the corresponding pages for the websites.

Then came the time to make the models and I started to work on a TensorFlow.JS model for waste classification and Aviral started to work on the BERT model for the sustainability score. but it was throwing a lot of error so Aviral suggested to change up the plan and use a different approach for the BERT model and we did that and it worked.

Then we started to work on the StreamLit apps and we made a few StreamLit apps and then we embedded them in our website and then we made a few more pages and then we made the website live and then we submitted the project. Most of it was made by aviral, I was helping him make the comprehensive and streamlined pages so it all looked good.

Meeting the other team from my college

Satyam’s Team

We celebrated Satyam’s birthday there and had a lot of fin times with Kushagra, Joysa, Nishita and obviously Satyam. Our Hackathon were giving us very little food Satyam’s team gave us some of their food and we were very grateful for that. We were very happy to meet them and we were very happy to be there.

Satyam’s Birthday

We got to a speaker event with NV sir, who is the most famous teacher in India for JEE and NEET and he was talking about his journey and how he started his coaching institute and how he was able to make it so big. It was a very inspiring talk.

His quote still resonates with me from my days in Kota and it is still very relevant to me. It goes like this:

कर्म करो तो फल मिलता है,
आज नहीं तो कल मिलता है।
जितना गहरा अधिक हो कुँआ,
उतना मीठा जल मिलता है ।
जीवन के हर कठिन प्रश्न का,
जीवन से ही हल मिलता है।

Did a lot of work and the project was done by night so we were chilling all night and then we went to sleep around 4 am. We were very tired and we were very happy that we were able to make the project in time and we were very happy with the project. But the Mattress was very hard and we were not able to sleep properly. So I barely Managed to sleep for 1 and a half hour and then when I got up saw Aviral was starting to work on the presentation and I then started to work on the video that needs to be uploaded with the project.

Burgers

Then we got 4 burgers from Kushagra and Satyam we ate that and then went on to see their presentation for a different hackathon that they had attended the previous week, fortunately they scored the third position in that hackathon and we were very happy for them as it was their first hackathon. After that I and Aviral went on to our hackathon to submit the project and then we submitted the project and then we went to the auditorium to see the results and then we were informed we had to wait till 5 PM for our results, and were allowed to go out of the campus but we didn’t go out of the campus as we were very tired.

So we went to the campus mess and had lunch and then Satyam and Nishita left for home. Now me, Aviral, Kushagra and Joysa stayed back. We attended a lot of talks including the one by the founder of naukri.com and then we went for the award ceremony.

The Results

The result was being announced, all of us were eagerly waiting to hear our team’s name “SustainX”

Results

The result for track one and two was announced and then came the time for track 3 and then I heard the name of our team. All of us were happy for the results, we received the prize. After that we were dispersed to go home and then we went home.

Now for the Technical Part

  1. Energy Consumption Analysis (Data Analytics): Using big data analytics, this feature provides users with a personalized dashboard which identifies patterns, pinpoints inefficiencies, and encourages energy-saving habits.

  2. Amazon Product Sustainability Score (NLP+LLM, BERT Model): Our proprietary AI-driven scoring system analyzes product descriptions to calculate a sustainability score. The system utilizes state-of-the-art NLP techniques and BERT, a highly effective language representation model, for thorough examination.

  3. Brand Sustainability Profiles (LLM, Web Scraping): Utilizing advanced LLM capabilities, this feature compiles data on corporate practices obtained via web scraping to offer a concise profile highlighting brand sustainability efforts.

  4. Waste Classification Guide (Computer Vision, CNN, TensorflowJs): A user-friendly guide that incorporates a custom-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to identify and sort waste. It promulgates correct waste disposal procedures, assisting users in contributing to environmental conservation.

Technology Stack:

TheGreenFootPrint is built on a robust and versatile tech stack designed to deliver a seamless and interactive web experience with a strong emphasis on machine learning and data analytics. Here’s a brief look at the technologies powering our eco-conscious platform:

  • HTML5 is the backbone, providing the structure for the web-based content, ensuring that the application is accessible and semantic across all devices.

  • CSS3 amplifies the user experience with its advanced styling capabilities, allowing us to create a visually engaging and responsive interface that resonates with our eco-friendly mission.

  • JavaScript is the driving force behind the dynamic interactions on the site, enabling real-time content updates and interactive features that keep users engaged and informed.

  • Python serves as the primary programming language for server-side scripting, data analysis, and running machine learning models, chosen for its simplicity and powerful data handling capabilities.

  • Streamlit is a rapid development framework that allows us to turn our data scripts into shareable web apps, making the deployment of our Python work quick and user-friendly.

  • TensorFlow.js brings machine learning directly to the browser, underpinning features like the waste classification system with its accessible and efficient neural network implementation.

  • Pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib form our data science triumvirate in Python, used for managing, computing, and visualizing data to derive insights and guide user decisions towards sustainability.

  • Gemini, while less known, is a specialized protocol used within the tech community, representing our commitment to exploring innovative solutions that align with our sustainable ethos.

  • BERT, a revolutionary natural language processing model, helps in understanding the environmental impact of products and brands by analyzing text data with unprecedented accuracy.

Together, these technologies interweave to create a green tapestry of functionality and purpose and are chosen specifically to ensure TheGreenFootPrint is as efficient and impactful as the sustainability actions it aims to inspire.
